More About Us
The Darke Horse Farm, LLC is situated fifty-five minutes north east of KCMO in a private, pastoral setting. Our vintage barn has all the charm of yesteryear with the modern amenities necessary for year round training of today's performance horses.
The Darke Horse was created out of a lifelong vision and a strong commitment to correct and compassionate training of horse and rider. Cindy "Lou" Sanders has spent her life curating a love for and knowledge of horses & horsemanship, the land, and desire to help horses and their riders develop a deeper level of trust and understanding from new riders to FEI professionals.
At The Darke Horse Farm we strive to help students acquire strong foundational skills, develop new techniques and confidently move forward in their learning journey with their equine partner. We accept students and their horses from all backgrounds and levels.
Lou also offers Equine Functional Movement to help horses recover from trauma or to enhance their performance.

Amy Larson, FEI Trainer/ USDF Gold Medalist
Amy is now back living and teaching in the KCMO area and is available to come to your barn.Quote from Felicitas von-Neumann Cosel: “I have known Amy Larson for close to 35 years, she is an amazing instructor with intuitive feel for horse and rider. Amy Larson trains and teaches through the FEI levels and is a nationally recognized trainer, coach and clinician. She has developed many horses to FEI from their first backing.A talented rider, Amy also is a gifted teacher. She works with horses and riders of all levels and is a notably patient mentor to each and every one she works with. Her personal mentors have been Felicitas von Neumann Cosel and Willi Schultheis. In 1997 Amy earned her USDF Gold Medal riding a horse she started and trained to Grand Prix. A few horses she has trained to FEI are:Her Trakehner, Playboy, and Deb Davenport's beautiful mare, Destine. Amy has helped her students to similar success with several achieving their Bronze, Silver and Gold medals and many riding Arabians, Baroque breeds, and grade horses.Amy's decades long competitive success and high standard of excellence is now carried on to her students with her passion for teaching from beginner to Grand Prix; competitor or pleasure; dressage, western dressage, and basic horsemanship skills. As an award winning artist her artistic talent, impeccable eye, and champion for the good of the horse make her a uniquely gifted rider, trainer, and clinician.

Our customizable training and lesson program offers riders and horses of all backgrounds and levels, from professionals to new riders & school masters to green horses, opportunities to increase their understanding and grow their skill sets.
Our trainer, Lou Sanders, comes from a diverse equestrian background; sport horse breeding, jumping, hunters, competitive trail, dressage, performance horse rehabilitation and re-training, and equine functional movement.
Our lesson program is based on helping students form a sound understanding of rider and horse biomechanics and developing their feel and timing with their equine partners.
